Fiery Father-in-Law Curry

IMG_2210.png

Father-in-Law Masala is a beautifully balanced, aromatic South African spice blend that offers a rich depth of flavor with a milder, more approachable heat. While Mother-in-Law Masala is famously fiery and packed with an intense chili kick, the Father-in-Law blend dials back the sharp heat, focusing instead on warm, earthy aromatics. It is the perfect choice for those who want all the robust, traditional flavor of a classic masala without the overwhelming burn.

A bold, unapologetic, and deeply aromatic curry crafted for true heat lovers.

Prep time: 10 mins | Cook time: 40 mins | Serves: 4

Ingredients:

1 kg Beef, Lamb, or Chicken pieces

2.5 tbsp [Your Brand Name] Father-in-Law Masala (The Main Spice)

 2 Large Onions (finely chopped)

 1 can (400g) Chopped Tomatoes

2 Large Potatoes (peeled and cubed)

 ¼ cup Cooking Oil

1 tbsp Ginger & Garlic paste

 1.5 cups Warm Water

Fresh chilies and coriander for serving

Method:

1. The Base: Heat oil in a heavy pot over medium heat. Fry the chopped onions until they turn translucent and slightly golden. Stir in the ginger & garlic paste for 1 minute.

2. Toast the Spice: Add 2.5 tablespoons of [Your Brand Name] Father-in-Law Masala directly to the hot oil and onions. Toast for just 30 seconds to fully release the fiery aromas (be careful not to burn it).

3. Sear the Meat: Add your meat pieces to the pot. Stir well to coat every piece in the vibrant red spice base, searing the meat for 5 minutes until browned.

4. Simmer: Pour in the chopped tomatoes and 1 cup of warm water. Cover with a lid, reduce the heat, and simmer (20 mins for chicken, 40 mins for red meat) until the meat starts to become tender.

5. Add Potatoes: Stir in the cubed potatoes and the remaining half cup of water if needed. Cover and cook for another 15–20 minutes until the potatoes are soft and the curry sauce has thickened into a rich, deep crimson gravy.

Garnish with fresh coriander and extra sliced chilies if you dare. Serve hot with basmati rice or fresh roti.
